MUSIC CARE by Room 217™ is a music-based health arts social enterprise that produces and delivers purposely designed music products, education, training, and certification to improve quality of life and care.
Our three pillars of musiccare are - CONNECT, LEARN and CERTIFY – each designed to support caregivers and care communities to increase engagement and life enrichment.
The vision of the Institute is to explore the interactions between music and health, and to develop solutions that can improve well-being for individuals and communities.
The uniquely inclusive Music programs at Carleton University provide rich opportunities to study a wide variety of musical traditions.
While developing a strong background in performance, composition, and analysis, students can choose between a range of musical styles including jazz, classical music, singer-songwriter, electronic and computer music, Celtic and world music, and popular music, among others. Even as you specialize in one area, you benefit from an overall environment of diversity.
Students also have the opportunity to develop strong critical thinking skills through the exploration of intellectual and applied perspectives such as community music practice, ethnomusicology, Canadian music studies, improvisation studies, disability studies, indigenous studies, critical theory (including areas such as gender, ethnicity, and class), and historical musicology.
Radical Connections transforms healthcare with all kinds of artists. Connecting the arts and health improves quality of life for residents, patients, and everyone working in and visiting healthcare settings.
Creative participation is crucial for humanizing healthcare by celebrating individuals as well as the diversity of cultures, abilities, and communities.
